Leopard and Leather

Typical Saturday in my life (assuming I don't work):
-Wake up whenever (usually 9 or 10), and roll around in bed for a little while.
-Maybe shower, depending on how gross my hair looks
-Put on the outfit that looks best, but also feels like pajamas
-Maybe put on makeup, depends on how gross my face looks
-Drive to The Mill with every textbook I own
-Get 18 refills of coffee while I do homework for a million hours
-Maybe go home at some point

That's my day today.  Of course, I work tonight so I won't be here ALL day, just pretty close.  I'm also only on my second refill of coffee.

This isn't what I'm wearing today.  This is what I wore on Monday.  I'm so behind!  Today I'm wearing a crushed velvet maxi skirt.  It's pretty amazing, folks.

Anyway, I don't feel like I have a lot to say about this outfit.  This dress is much too short, but I don't care.  It looks silly as a shirt, so dress it is.  I love the rich color paired with my leather vest and leopard scarf.  Feels so wintery to me.

Long Night Moon

Good morning, everyone!  I don't actually have a lot to say right now.  I'm typing this from a hotel room in Des Moines at 1 in the morning.  My mom and I took a last minute trip to Lincoln to see my grandpa, who isn't doing well.  She flew out of town yesterday afternoon, and I hopped in my car at about 5:30.  I took these photos yesterday because I was going to wear this outfit to a production meeting, but I ended up missing the meeting due to the trip.  So, to be honest, I didn't actually wear this for any longer than it took me to take these photos.

Hopefully I will actually wear this outfit to an actual event or something to justify the taking of these photos.  By the way, these shoes are the ones that I broke my February thrift rule for.  They're Chinese Laundry and I got them for like 40% off on Haute Look.  No complaints!

I will do my best to stay on top of this blog while I'm away, but I can't promise much.  Hopefully I will be back to schedule on Monday or Tuesday.

Inspiration - Ghost World

Ghost world is one of my favorite movies.  The graphic novel it's based on is really wonderful, too.  The film and the graphic novel both have some really phenomenal fashion in them.

The two main characters in the film are Enid and Rebecca, two cynical and witty teenagers fresh out of high school.  The story follows the both of them growing up and slowly drifting apart as they each decide what to do with their post-high school lives.

Enid has the most unique style in the film.  She goes through distinct style phases, but mostly her style is very 90's mild-punk.  She wears lots of bold colors, and heavy shoes.  One of the most noticeable facets of Enid's style is that she doesn't ever dress for her body type.  She wears very boxy jackets and too-short skirts
This outfit represents Enid's first style of the film (seen above).  She's wearing a skirt with a large plaid print, and a blue graphic tee that looks like it probably came from the little boy's section.  I wanted to update the look a little bit, and chose a longer plaid skirt, to hit the midi-length trend.  I also went with a few more fitted t-shirts instead of the boxy one Enid wears.  I did stick with her traditional black Dr. Marten boots, though, and her brown messenger bag.

Enid 2 - Ghost World

Another one of Enid's notable outfits is her "punk day" outfit.  She has the sudden urge to dye her hair green, and wear creepers and a leather jacket.  I decided to modernize this one a little, too, by going with a more minimal t-shirt design, instead of the ringer-t Enid is wearing.

Enid 3 - Ghost World

This last outfit is one of my favorites in the film.  It's such a different look from the above two, but still screams "Enid".  She's wearing a leopard mini skirt and a cute waitressy-looking black shirt, with a feathered headband.  I stayed pretty true to the look, but changed up the headband.  I love the little white color on this black shirt, and the leopard print is a fun addition.

Are there any other films you guys would like to see fashion inspiration from?
