Homegrown Style: Day 3

Okay, so today is actually day 6 of Homegrown, but I wore this outfit on day 3.  It's confusing, I know.  I actually didn't go out to Homegrown at all on days 4 or 5 for various reasons, so this is the latest outfit from Homegrown.  I'll probably go out tonight, though, so I will have that to share with you all tomorrow!

On day 3 I called it a really early night.  I went to see Adeline's daughter's band play at 7, and was home by 8.  Adeline's daughter is 11, and her other two bandmates are 11 and 13.  They were awesome!  The theater was packed and they got a standing ovation at the end.  It was wonderful.

It was warm enough here for a couple of days to go without tights.  Unfortunately, it's not longer nice out and I find myself wearing huge sweaters and wool socks.  Ick.  I'm anxious both for nice weather and for my move, since it's substantially warmer in Lincoln than it is here.

Speaking of moving, I have a job interview when I get into town!  It's at a local bar/grill that my cousin Nate works at.  I'm really nervous and excited.  It would be great to find a job right away and start saving up for my own place.  My cousin Sarah was nice enough to invite me to stay with her and her husband and their new baby, but I think I'll feel like I'm imposing after a little while.  Obviously, I can't move out until I have a job and have some money saved up, though!

I'm still getting over this sickness a little, but I did go to work today and I'm hoping to go out to a few shows tonight for Homegrown.  I'm trying to make the most of my last weeks in Duluth!  Right now, though, I really want to crawl back into bed.  Oh, well.

Homegrown Style: Day 2

Happy Tuesday!  Last night was day 2 of Homegrown and it was awesome!  Saw this wonderful singer at Carmody's and then went to RT Quinlan's to close out the night.  I had a great time.  Tonight, my boss's daughter's band is playing at 7.  Her name is Gala and she's 11, and she's awesome.  I'm sure they will be wonderful.  I think I'll probably call it a pretty early night, though.  I've been staying out too late and getting into trouble!  (Not real trouble, just the kind where people are upset with me.)

For day 2 I chose this simple floral dress that I've had for years.  It's fun and springy.  The black tights and sweater helped make it more appropriate for the weather we have here.  It's been super gloomy and dark here recently.  It's kind of a bummer!  I think tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, though, so that will be nice.

Homegrown Style: Day 1

For anyone not in Minnesota, yesterday was the start of the biggest, greatest 8 days of the Duluth year.  I'm not exaggerating, actually.  Yesterday marked the beginning of Homegrown Music Festival, an 8 day festival of awesome local music and artists taking place all over town.  There are around 150 bands that play over the course of 8 days, and everyone has lots of beer.  It's awesome.  This is the first year that I'm 21 and can go to all of the venues and have some drinks, so I decided to buy a week-long pass instead of just individual wristbands.  I'm super excited!

Last night I went to Tycoon's and saw The Underwriters, who were awesome, and then headed over to Pizza Luce to see my friend Jake's band, Planemo, and saw Bull Feathers afterward.  I had an awesome time and I'm looking forward to going out again tonight.

I thought long and hard about what to wear last night.  The 3 things you want your Homegrown outfit to be are cute, comfortable, and washable.  You will most likely get beer spilled on you, either from yourself or someone else.  You don't want to wear something that you will be upset if it gets beer on it.  Also, comfortable shoes are key since the venues are all over town and you'll probably end up walking, and then dancing once you get there.

I went with something cute and easy, with comfortable boots.  No one gets all dressed up (really, think Coachella but in Northern Minnesota... and indoors... and local), so casual is key.  I'm actually getting really excited about planning my outfits out for the whole week, now.
