Down to Earth

Can we talk for a minute about how awesome this skirt is?  I'm absolutely in love with it.  I got it at Savers last week, and I'm going to guess it was about a size 20.  I am much smaller than a size 20, for the record.  But I loved the cut and the print, so I wasn't about to let a little thing like it being 14 sizes to big stop me.

As you can see, there are 3 rows of top-stitching in the waistband of this skirt.  I think this skirt was handmade, as I cannot find a label in it anywhere and the seams are just a little wonky.  I'm not sure what the purpose of those three lines of top-stitching was, or how the original owner planned on keeping the skirt up, with neither elastic in the waistband nor any kind of closure.  So, I made a couple snips on the inside of the waistband, between the two stitch lines, and threaded through some elastic, measured to my waist size.  Viola!  It fits like a glove now, and has a cute gathered top to add to the fullness.

I've gotten really into pattern mixing recently.  This shirt is a super easy patterned piece because the stripes are so similar in color and they're very small.  It almost works as a solid, really.  Maybe that's cheating.

I'm so ready for it to be less dark and gloomy here.  The grass is so brown, and the trees are so brown.  I feel like, especially in this outfit, I just blend in to the background.  Note to self:  Wear brighter colors.  At least until the weather catches up.

This happens every time I go outside to take photos.  They just think it's so exciting.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

  1. That last picture is the cutest ever. I like how you styled the skirt - the tights and shoes in particular sweet. And wow, what a wonderful deck and background; just saying.
